My E-MU 1212m PCI Internal Sound Card V.S. Tascam's US-1800 USB 2.0 Audio Interface

Replacing My E-MU 1212m PCI With Tascam's US-1800 USB 2.0 Audio Interface

I am involved in several “Distance Learning” classes and Webinars. Most often, I must record these & study them at odd Hrs. With my E-MU 1212m PCI Audio Interface, I was able to record streaming Audio, and record it into my choice of Power Track Pro 2011 (via ASIO Drvr) or Audacity (via MME Drvr).

Because E-MU no longer supports Drivers for the 1212m AND, I needed to acquire some Out-Box Control Center capable of “I/O” & other connectivity from the 1212m while yielding multiple I/O & other connectiviy. This Device must Amplify & Gain.

The least expensive solution to both problems was to upgrade my Sound Card. I chose the Tascam 144mkII because Pro Audio Engineers raved about it in my Forums & in written reviews. It was listed more expensive than my 1212m. The US-1800 arrived at the time I was shopping. Vendors listed it as a step-up & replacement for the 144mkII.

I am impressed with all the features I have found in the US-1800. I am disappointed that I have NOT found a way to record streaming Internet Audio into my Recording Software without enabling a 2nd audio card.

Because Audio Construction & Engineering is new to me, I assume the ability for US1800 to do this exist, and I have not discovered it yet. The US-1800 is Bundled with Cubase LE5. The US1800 Getting Started User Guide merely informs that most of the Soung Card's features are controlled by the PC's Software- it specified Cubase for 1.

It seems PC Audio (MME, WAVE, WDM) goes directly to the US1800 via it's USB connector. The US1800 then, Outputs the audio to several of it's Outputs but- MME on the PC no longer offers audio to other software. It's like once out to US1800, MME is dead. For Real Time monitoring, this is fine. But, what about recording the streaming audio that is being monitored?

No problem recording or playing Device attached to the US1800. No problem hearing audio produced in the PC & sent to the US1800. Problem is, I can't record audio produced on the PC (Internet Streaming) with Software that's on the PC.
